A Cup of Glee Weekly Newsletter: Details Make the Difference

Welcome to the Blog for Fancy That
We happily call our blog “A Cup of Glee”
Thanks for stopping by!

I realize I'm a little tardy making this post (it's a busy time at Fancy That as we gear up for bridal shower season) but better late than never, right? :) Ok. let's get right to it! If I have a motto, it's this: details make the difference. Today, I thought I'd share with you one of my favorite finishing touches to make your event that much more special: Edible flowers!

Pictured above are gorgeous edible crystallized flowers available from Sur la table. I love to decorate salads with these or place a couple of them on a plate of tea cookies for instant panache.

Be imaginative. There are so many ways you can use edible flowers! Float some in fruit punch (see yummy recipe for Raspberry-and-Rose-Petal-Punch,) place one on the teaspoon at each place setting, or even freeze them into ice cubes!

Follow this link for another example of flowers in ice.

Just make sure you purchase flowers that were grown to be eaten (no pesticides used). Never use non-edible flowers on your plate-- or any garnish for that matter-- that is not edible. Remember, if it goes on the plate, it must be edible!

That's all for now, my dears. I'm off to acquire more teacups :)

A Cup of Glee - Weekly Newsletter - Tea Bread makes the Perfect Gift

Welcome to the Blog for Fancy That!
We happily call our blog “A Cup of Glee.”
Thank you for stopping by. Enjoy!

The next time you are about to buy a gift for someone, I think you should think "tea bread". That's right, you heard me correctly: tea bread. It really is the perfect gift (in my humble opinion :)) for just about any occasion! It makes a great birthday gift, thank you gift, sympathy gift, hostess gift, just because gift, etc.

Here are some of my fave places to order tea bread online: The Basket Case (unsettling name, great products!). Check out their tea loaf gift set by Rowena of lemon and an almond pound cake with delicious lemon curd sauce! YUM. A brilliant gift for any occasion (not just bereavement, as they have it shown on their site). And, how happy is the packaging?!

Another site that looks promising, although I haven't tried them personally, is Wolferman's. They let you create your own gift box of tea breads, and they've got some delicious flavors to choose from. The best part is that you can also add delicious toppings to your order, such as a jar of "triple fruit spread", "apple 'n spice conserve" or the unusual-but-fabulous-sounding: "banana-peanut butter" (plus many other choices)!

Finally, I couldn't talk about tea bread without directing you to one of my fave places from which to order: The Swiss Colony. They have an adorable gift set of tea breads that comes with assorted spreads. Each loaf is tied with a bow and rests on a white paper doily. I'm a sucker for doilies, so it's no wonder that I love this gift so much (doilies make everything look better, don't they?) I send this gift to family and friends when ever there is an occasion to do so, and sometimes even if there is no occasion. I also frequently buy it for myself :)

If you've got a favorite place to order tea bread, or a special tea bread recipe, let us know. We'd love to hear from you!

A Cup Of Glee - Weekly Newsletter - IN LIEU

Welcome to the Blog for Fancy That!

Thank you for stopping by. Enjoy!

Today, I thought I'd talk about something a bit unusual: flower etiquette for funerals. We've all heard and read it before: "In Lieu of Flowers, donations may be made to.......". Flowers are an integral part of a funeral. What people often don't realize is that flowers at a funeral are always appropriate (unless of course, it is against a religious custom), even if a donation is going to be made, because flowers add warmth to the service and provide the visible emotional support that the family needs. When my sister passed in 2002, I realized first hand how true the above statement is. I was deeply touched by all the flowers she received, and I was exceedingly grateful. It really was an enormous comfort. So, please remember that if you decide to make a donation in memory of someone, you can still send flowers, and vice versa. One does not have to be in lieu of the other.

While we're on the topic, I recently found a great site (healingbaskets.com) that offers for sale unique sympathy gifts and even memorial tokens that can be handed out to those who attend the wake or service. There's even a section of gifts for those battling cancer - all in all, healingbaskets.com offers an amazing collection of unique and meaningful ways to, believe it or not, celebrate someone's life. Another site worth mentioning here is zenamoon.com. Their hand-poured candles and unique gifts will, in their own words: honor your journey, delight your senses and feed your spirit.

ok, now onto a lighter note:

The Flying Saucer
(What’s new at Fancy That!)

Great News! Due to the demand of our Simplicity Line of teacups and saucers, Fancy That has increased our inventory to accommodate even more rental orders. Your next tea party, birthday or simple celebration doesn't have to break the bank to be elegant and memorable!
